Numburindi Corporation works across many pillars, including economic development, community services, cultural preservation and individual wellbeing.

Numburindi Store

In 2011, Numburindi Corporation brought the management of the local supermarket into local hands. Since then, it has provided a consistent and reliable supply of fresh produce, meat and dairy, dry goods, household essentials and hot meals to the Numbulwar community.

Numburindi Store is committed to continually improving the affordability of its products for its customers. Freight subsidies make healthy product choices, such as fruit and vegetables, more accessible for everyone. Healthy eating initiatives are monitored closely against robust store policies backed by nutritionists.

While servicing the community, Numburindi Store proudly employs more than 20 local Indigenous people who receive on-the-job training in areas such as retail and food handling. Numburindi Store was the winner of the NT Training Awards in 2023, named Small Employer of the Year.

Established in 2019, Numbulwar Numburindi Arts provides independent income for more than 40 artists and arts workers. In a short space of time, the art centre has grown significantly, working with women, men and young people across a range of media and building an international market for Numburindi art.

Numbulwar Numburindi Arts supports creative and cultural expression through a vibrant annual program of activities, from workshops to exhibitions, art fairs and professional development. It partners with other local organisations to deliver projects with a broad impact.

The art centre maintains a digital archive, playing an important role in preserving and documenting traditional Nunggubuyu cultural heritage for future generations

Numburindi Festival

Numburindi Festival is a lively, community-driven event that celebrates Nunggayinbala culture - traditional and contemporary. Across three days, Numburindi Festival showcases the incredible talents of Numbulwar residents and guest performers, as curated by a committee of local leaders.

Highlighting the diversity of language, dance and song from clan groups living in Numbulwar - Ngalmi, Nundhirribala, Murrungun, Nunggarragalu and Mangurra - festival activities focus on intergenerational exchange and mentorship.

The locally-based and widely-renowned Red Flag Dancers are joined by visiting dance groups from nearby communities for a joyous corroboree night under the stars. Children’s day engages young people in sports activities, competitions, workshops and performances. The festival is capped off by a magical night of contemporary Aboriginal music from across the Northern Territory and beyond.

Numburindi Corporation has supported this festival since it began in 2016 by donating prize packs. In 2023, it supported a new creative program for young people in partnership with Numbulwar School, which it plans to extend in 2024 and beyond.
